Steve Wherry is the owner and founding shareholder of Wherry Law, P.A.

Ethics, integrity, and commitment to advocacy motivate his legal practice and style of representation. Steve has an easy going, yet effective approach in his work and is intensely dedicated to serving as your advocate.

Mr. Wherry is a current member of the Florida Bar Association and Broward County Bar Association. He is designated by the US Green Building Council as a LEED AP for his knowledge and understanding of environmentally sustainable land development practices.

Mr. Wherry is an adjunct professor at Florida Atlantic University where he lectures in Administrative Process & Ethics, an upper-level undergraduate course concerning administrative law.

Before going to law school, Steve worked as a business management consultant. He has helped large and small companies launch new products, retool operations, and leverage software and the internet to meet business goals.  Through this experience, he dealt with many complex management and planning issues.  Mr. Wherry envisioned a law practice as a natural extension of his work with business clients and, subsequently, began Wherry Law.

Mr. Wherry works with business clients faced with commercial disputes, challenges or opportunities involving government, or who seek assistance in issues pertaining to land development.  Mr. Wherry is also skilled in helping business people pursue sensitive transactional opportunities with other businesses, with an eye to avoiding “over lawyering” a potential deal.

In addition to his focus on business issues, Mr. Wherry helps individuals and families through many types of legal issues such as real estate transactions, creditor difficulties, personal injury, and governmental relations of all types.  He has experience in various types of civil litigation and criminal defense.

Mr. Wherry is interested in seeing his clients reach a just conclusion in the legal system, and is committed to competent and thorough representation on your behalf.

About Steve Wherry

Mr. Wherry is a 1992 graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, SC and graduated from the University of Akron School of Law in December 2004 after spending over ten years in business consulting in the United States, Japan, Philippines, Korea, and throughout the Caribbean, including Bermuda.  He consulted to a number of companies in a wide range of matters, including PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in helping them to startup a nationwide middle market business consulting practice.

While attending law school, Mr. Wherry worked as a law clerk for The J.M. Smucker Company in Orrvile, Ohio and devoted substantial time as a volunteer mediator for the City of Akron Municipal Court, Small Claims Division, achieving one of the highest successful mediation records in a variety of cases, including landlord-tenant, debtor-creditor, and personal injury disputes. 

As a law student, Mr. Wherry’s writing earned him a place on the staff of the Akron Law Review, serving for two years as an editor, first as Assistant Editor then as Associate Editor.  As Editor-in-Chief of the Akron Journal of Technology Transfer, Mr. Wherry’s organizational and lobbying efforts secured charter approval, initial university funding, and a grant of facilities to establish a publication that today has evolved into the notable Akron Intellectual Property Law Journal.  While in law school, Mr. Wherry studied under the late Ghana Supreme Court Justice T. Modibo Ocran, earning two book awards for top grades in International Trade and International Commercial Law from the recognized jurist.  Mr. Wherry also participated in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, earning a “Top Oralist” award in the competition.  Mr. Wherry graduated early from law school in 2.5 years and earned a Litigation Certificate in addition to his law degree.     

His commitment to community service continues today by representing people in need and in his association with Florida Attorneys Saving Homes.  As well, Mr. Wherry sits on the board of directors of the Propeller Club of Port Everglades, a civic organization that brings together numerous maritime and related businesses.

Mr. Wherry is actively involved with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and devotes substantial time as an Assistant District Commissioner with the South Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
